This statement has
been prepared to help people with disabilities and physical
impairment to assess whether these premises will be accessible
to them.
The bungalow
-
Due
to the restricted layout of the chalet, it is not
considered suitable for persons permanently confined to a
wheelchair. There is a single low step over at the front
door with no ramp; however other chalets on site have
ramps to enable wheelchair access. Internal door widths
are not large enough to accommodate adult wheelchairs.
Access to the beach is by a very steep slipway with no
handrail or by a long flight of steps. There are no stairs
in the chalet. The area around the chalets is mainly
level. The roads on site are mainly flat with speed humps
and restricted speed limit. Parking is available directly
behind the chalet. There is a regular bus service on the
main road adjacent to the site and taxi companies are
available across the Island.
-
There
is permanent lighting on the alleyways between chalets and
a sensor light at the front of the chalet. A washing
machine/tumble dryer is available inside the chalet. A
small shop on site provides basic everyday goods. The
chalet is equipped with a pay telephone and a digital box
with teletext.
-
Assistance
dogs are allowed on site and there is a gorse field where
dogs can be walked as well as the adjacent private beach.
Written instructions for operating appliances are
available in the chalet. Large print information is
available on request.
Getting there
-
The
nearest bus stop is approximately 1.2km away and access to
the site is via an unadopted road, which is in poor
condition with potholes and unmarked ramps.
-
The
Lymington to Yarmouth ferry is approximately 5km away and
taxis are usually available.
